Good news for foodies in Sai Kung. The Sai Kung Weekend Organic Farmers’ Market will start on 23 July in the Sai Kung District Community Centre in Mei Yuen Street. The market provides an occasion for consumers and local organic farmers, while selling and buying produce, to chat and share ideas with each other.
It also enables local farmers to sell their organic produce directly to consumers improving their income and maintaining their competitive edges. At the same time, consumers can continue to enjoy the additional alternative for affordable and healthy farm goods.
The organisers hope that it will contribute to the publicising and promotion of the benefits brought by organic farming in relation to ecological conservation and food safety, and, help to realise, on a municipal and neighbourhood level, the Hong Kong Government’s vision of Sustainable Agricultural Development.
They also hope that it will enrich the local economy, enliven conservation education and enthuse people to lead a simple and healthy lifestyle.
The proceeds derived from the scheme of Sai Kung Weekend Organic Farmers’ Market are mainly used for facilitating the neighbourhood economy, promoting green living and supporting organic farming. The organisers aim to pursue the greatest common good in the community instead of indiscriminately maximising profits.
The market will run every Sunday and Pubic Holiday from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm.
